Video Poker – How to Play the Game?

Video poker is based on real poker but is more like a slot. You will lose less if you play video poker rather than slots as you have some say in what and when you play. Slots don’t give you the opportunity to affect what you play where as video poker does. The house advantage on video poker is lower than slots therefore you have more of a chance of winning. The hands in video poker are the same as in real poker. The good thing about video poker is that you cant bluff and if you play badly no one will rib you about it, apart from yourself for losing.

It is possible to actually get 5 of a kind believe it or not on games that incorporate a wildcard!

As you can see it’s the same rank structure of normal poker, apart from the wildcard casino games. But you don’t have to try to beat the dealer or another player you are just trying to get the best hand to beat the list on the machine.

Basically you put your money in and press deal. 5 cards are simulated on the screen you then get the option to take 5 completely new cards and to discard the ones that you don’t want. Sometimes you will keep the lot as you have been dealt a winning hand. Keep your cards by pressing the hold button. Then press deal again to see what you get.

There are four main types of video poker machines which are Jacks or better, Jokers wild (where jokers count as any card), Deuces wild (the same as jokers wild but with 2s as the wild cards.),King of Decks (this is a progressive jackpot game). Progressive games can be good if the jackpot is high enough for the royal flush. But if the Jackpot is low I would suggest that you stay away from theses as it would be better to play the fixed payout games such as Jacks or better or deuces wild.

The way to up what you win on video poker is to increase the amount of coins that you play each spin. To only play one coin lowers your advantage over the house so I would suggest to play the maximum number each time. To some this might seem like a waste of money per spin but the payouts are much bigger if you play with 5 coins and the house advantage is a lot less. With 52 cards in a deck it is possible to get 2,598,960 differing hands. The casino sets the random number generator to simulate this with a house advantage (unfortunately there is always a house advantage I’m sorry to say). Video poker is particularly popular in Australia, where they even have their own name for it – Pokies.

I must say that I do like video poker in general I do not normally play slots but play poker. Maybe because of the poker link is why I and 1000s of others play it.
